Flats evacuated after Crawley blaze

POLICE and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are investigating a blaze in Northgate.

A fire broke out in an external storage cupboard on Barnfield Road at around midnight last night (Wednesday April 12).

Five fire engines attended the scene for around two hours and crews evacuated 20 nearby flats for precautionary measures.

Eight flats, a stairwell and roofing were damaged by the fire and smoke.

No-one was hurt by the incident.
