The woman responsible for success of the town’s environmental project, Let’s FACE it! rubbed shoulders with the likes of Alan Titchmarsh at a gala dinner.
Ruth Growney admitted she squealed with delight when an invitation from the Royal Horticultural Society to the dinner at the Chelsea Flower Show landed on her desk. The dinner was held to celebrate 50 years of Britain in Bloom and the 50 years in horticulture of Alan Titchmarsh. Among the 120 guests was Jim Buttress, of BBC 2’s Big Allotment Challenge (pictured), and top garden designers such as Cleve West, Andrew Wilson and Adam Frost. Ruth described the invitation as an honour and said it was “recognition indeed that Crawley is well and truly on the ‘Bloom’ map”.
