The latest round of food hygiene inspections have seen several town outlets – including an ice cream van – pass with flying colours.

The Scores on the Doors inspections are carried out regularly by Crawley Borough Council and involve any business or organisation which serves food or drink from their premises.

Inspectors judge the organisations on safety, hygiene, management and the overall condition of the outlet, including lighting, cleanliness and ventilation.

Among those awarded top marks following inspections at the end of March, were the Giggling Squid restaurant, in the High Street; the Plough Inn, in Ifield Street, Ifield; Thornton’s, in County Mall; Italian Pizza, in Gatwick Road; the Hallan Cash And Carry, in Ifield Road, West Green, and ice cream van registration W581 PBR, which is based in Rusper Road.

None of those inspected at the end of March received a low score.

A spokesman for the council said: “Scores on the Doors has been a very effective scheme, which has helped the council improve food hygiene in Crawley.

“There has been significant improvements since the launch of the scheme in 2007, which have been sustained and improved year on year to date.”
