Former councillors set up children’s charity
A group of residents are setting up a charity to help provide resources for Crawley children whose families may be struggling in the economic climate.
The Crawley Children’s Wish Foundation was the brain child of former councillors Ali Burke, Lee Gilroy and their friend Louise Kemp. It aims to help children in Crawley have a better quality of life, provide opportunities they would not otherwise have, and assist families who are struggling.
The trio are looking for donations of everything from equipment, bikes, and furniture to tickets for football matches, to help children who may never of had the chance to ride a bike, go to the beach or have their own bed.
Lee, from Broadfield, said: “The three of us, just had the same idea, there are a lot of people struggling and sometimes children go without. That is not to point blame at the parents who are doing all they can, this is an idea to give children the opportunity to do things like go to the seaside which they might not otherwise of had. There are other things like beds. Some children share a bed with their brother or sister, if someone has a good quality bed they don’t want they can donate it to us. We are also interested in people coming forward who are willing to give up their time to hold lessons, for example on how to fix a bike. We are looking at all sorts of things but there are still a lot of that we need to iron out. We are not do gooders just three people who want to help and do our bit. It is all new and we have a way to go, but it is exciting.”
Ali Burke from Pound Hill added: “We will do whatever we can to help. I want people to know that if they approach us wanting our help, they will not be judged. Everyone is going through a tough time and that is the reason we are doing this. I set up the Facebook site on Thursday night and we have already had a wonderful reaction. We are still setting everything up and will have a website soon. It is very exciting.”
