FROM HOLLYWOOD BACK TO THE HAWTH
FILM actor Barry Dowden is leaving Hollywood behind to give amateur dramatics in town a boost.
Barry, who has just finished filming with Lord Of The Rings star
Elijah Woods, is starring in the Barry Manilow penned blockbuster Copacabana at the Hawth Theatre free of charge because he loves the show so much.
Barry said: "I loved the movie. It has great song and dance numbers and is a lot of fun. Amateur dramatics is where many great actors got their footings and we should support it."
Barry has worked in film and television for many years, rubbing theatrical shoulders with the likes of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Liam Neeson.
Barry starred opposite Elijah Woods in The Yank, a film about a recently expelled Harvard student who travels to London and is introduced to the passion and excitement of football culture.
In The Yank, Barry was lucky enough to be in a fight directed by Pat Johnson, the world renowned fight choreographer from the Karate Kid films, who has worked with likes of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
Barry said: "My character had to fight Elijah's, so 15-years of martial arts training came in very useful, but you will have to wait to see the film to find out who won."
In the meantime Barry, of Burgess Hill, will take on another local star, Audrey Lucas, a regular lead in productions at the Hawth, when he plays Sam Silver opposite her as Gladys Murphy.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to playing opposite Audrey as we are both choreographers. However, the only choreography we are involved in together has Audrey stripping me to my boxer shorts!"
