Councillors have granted planning permission to turn grass verges into parking spaces.

Crawley Borough Council Development Control Committee members gave permission to make 21 parking spaces in Langley Green and Southgate on April 8.

In Southgate there will be four in Wainwrights, three in Barrington Road and five in Chandler Close.

The grass verge in Jackdaw Close, Langley Green, will be made into nine spaces.

Council officers reported the 5.5m wide verge had become “rutted, muddy and unsightly” after drivers used it to park.

The new spaces will be in the form of a lay-by with a one-metre wide ‘step-off’ area and a dropped kerb.

This was welcomed by the Crawley Town Access Group which campaigns to improve accessibility in the town.
