People have been encouraged to talk to their police officer at a new weekly PCSO Surgery.
Tilgate PCSO Ashleigh Hanlon will be available to talk to residents about any local policing issues at Tilgate Bakery every Wednesday from 3.30pm.
PCSO Hanlon said she wanted to make herself more accessible to members of the community who do not see her at other times.
She said: “I spend a lot of time in the parade anyway because it is my job to make sure I am well known by the community and people feel comfortable to talk to me.”
After working in Tilgate for two years PCSO Hanlon knows the area well.
She has worked to decrease the amount of anti-social behaviour in the parade by spending time in schools and out in the community to ensure children know her.
She said: “There used to be anti-social behaviour on the parade but this year we haven’t had as much.
“I’ve been getting to know the children by being here so much and most of them know me by name so by the time they get to that age it’s easier for me to talk to them on that level.”
PCSO Hanlon said her main aims in the run-up to Christmas were to help tackle the rising number of burglaries as the evenings were growing longer.
She said: “If anyone wants a security visit, give me a call or email and I’m happy to pop round and have a look at their property.
