Honours for volunteers

Two Horley volunteers were among the unsung heroes recognised for their hard work and dedication at the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead’s Voluntary Awards ceremony.

Brian Legg, of Horley Crusaders youth group, and Karen Tilford-Carey, of the Pathfinder Beaver Colony, received Individual Volunteer Awards alongside Frank Ware, of Friends of East Surrey Hospital, and John Gilford, of the St John’s Ambulance, Surrey District Division.

The ceremony took place at Reigate town hall on Tuesday October 2 where the mayor, Cllr Roger Newstead, presented the winners with framed certificates.

Cllr Newstead said: “I am always impressed by the number of people who volunteer to help in many different activities in the borough and in the quality of the work they do.

“However, more volunteers are needed, particularly to help the elderly and as leaders in our youth organisations.”
