Horley cyclist injured in A264 crash

Two veteran cyclists were seriously injured on the A264 Holtye Road between East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells on Saturday (23 August) after they were in collision with a BMW X5 car.

The crash happened at 9.51am at Coopers Wood, some 400 metres west of Holtye Road’s junction with Cansiron Lane, Holtye, on eastbound carriageway.

The road was closed to traffic until 11.18am while emergency services were at the scene.

A 71-year-old man from Tatsfield, Kent, riding a blue Focus racing cycle, suffered back injuries and abrasions.

His companion, a 78-year-old man from Horley, Surrey, riding a black Fast Line racing cycle, suffered pelvic injuries and abrasions.

Both men, who were part of a larger organised group of cyclists, were taken to the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells.

The 78-year-old from Horley was detained for treatment but the other injured man was treated and released.

The BMW driver, a 44-year-old woman from Felbridge, Surrey, was unhurt.
