Inspirational Fundraiser

AN INSPIRATIONAL fund raiser has been nominated for a top national award.

Double amputee Clare Forbes, 24, of Broadfield, has skydived and competed in marathons and charity runs across the world to raise money for charity.

Her dad nominated her for the oneclick.com inspirational fundraiser award.

She said: "It was a bit of a shock to me when I found out, my dad nominated me and I didn't find out until they phoned up and told me that I was in the final.

"The actual winner is chosen on the day and they win 20,000 to give to the charity of their choice, mine is the Douglas Bader foundation."

Proud dad Eiffie Verboort said: "There were more than 500 entrants, and they we got an email to say that Claire was in the top 100 which we thought was brilliant."

Clare takes part in events around the country at weekends championing numerous causes and covering miles.

When Clare was told by doctors that she would not be able to compete and was made wheel chair bound after the New York marathon, she decided

to do a couple of sky dives instead.

She said: "I was petrified; I can't even look down the stairs I am so scared of heights. On the first skydive I did I shouted 'no no no' but the guy thought I was shouting 'go go go' and jumped out of the plane.

"It was so amazing that I went back and did it again."

Claire will find out if she is the winner of the oneclick.com award on June 11.
