Horley Lions Club has thanked the town’s residents for donating around £5,500 to the club over the Christmas period.
The money, which will go towards helping the community, was collected during the annual Santa’s sleigh ride in the run up to Christmas.
Club chairman Peter Moxley said: “We truly do appreciate the support given to us by the community of Horley, which is well known for its generosity.
“The weather certainly was not kind, as Santa did struggle to get around the routes designated to the Horley Lions Club, but helped by the Scouts and Girl Guides of Horley, the routes were largely completed despite the rain, hail and thunder experienced during the week.”
Some 120 food parcels were distributed to the elderly and to needy families, and the balance of monies collected will be donated to worthy causes in the community.
Peter added: “Our thanks go out to the people of Horley for their support and through your paper we wish everyone a very happy and healthy new year.”
