Man charged with murder appears in court

A 23-year-old man charged with murder appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday January 23).

Daniel Palmer, of Maunsell Park, Station Hill, Three Bridges, has been charged with the murder of Joao Esteves, 45, from Portugal.

Palmer spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

He was sent for trial at Lewes Crown Court tomorrow (Friday January 24).

The victim was found with serious head injuries at 3.25am on Sunday (January 19) in an alleyway between Stephenson Way and Haslett Avenue East.

Two men aged 33 and 48 and a 22-year-old woman, all from Crawley, who were also arrested on Sunday, have been released on bail until March 12 while officers carry out further inquiries.
