Mayor greets French disabled cyclists on their way to the Paralympic Games

THE Mayor was given the opportunity to polish up on his French when he met a group of disabled cyclists who had pedalled their way from the Continent to visit the Paralympic Games.

Cllr Keith Blake (Con, Gossops Green) greeted the team from Sur la Route des Jeux - On the Route to the Games - when they took a break at the Gatwick Worth Hotel on Monday (September 3).

He joked: “I greeted them in French but I had to Google it beforehand. It was fantastic to meet them.”

The group left Pont-Audemer, in Normandy, on August 29, cycling round the region before picking up the ferry from Dieppe to Newhaven then on to Crawley.

After five days in London, cheering on their countrymen in the Games, they will make the long journey back home.
