Miracle mum beats all the odds
WHEN brave mum Nicki Hull was told she could never have children again following a gruelling battle with breast cancer, she thought her world had come to an end.
But against all the odds, just two years after fighting the horror disease, Nicki, who had also suffered a miscarriage just months before, miraculously fell pregnant again - and says these smiling seven-year-old twins, Joshua and Eran, are her 'little miracles'.
The brave mum-of-three, from Southgate, was diagnosed with breast cancer ten years ago and underwent gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy and had to have a lumpectomy.
Now Nicki, 42, has been given the all clear, and is even planning to take part in the Playtex Moonwalk in London, to raise funds for charity Walk the Walk.
She said: "I was diagnosed with breast cancer when my daughter was only 15 months old.
"I had just finished breast feeding and so I was very aware of any changes. One day I felt a lump a bit like a pea in my left breast.
"I don't remember much about the time, but one Christmas, I spent about 200 on my baby, it was a lot of money, but I really didn't think I would be around to spend another Christmas with her.
"I was in so much shock; you don't expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer when you're just 31. My friends and family told me I was too young, and even the GP said she was referring me just to be on the safe side, but inside I knew, I knew it was cancer.
"It was just horrendous; it was just the worse thing on this planet for anybody to go through.
"After the treatment my periods stopped completely, and I was told I was infertile. I was very upset because I had never wanted my daughter to be an only child.
"Then about a year and a half afterwards I fell pregnant, unfortunately I suffered a miscarriage, but at that point I knew it was at least possible.
"Then six months later I fell pregnant again, and this time I managed to carry them to full term.
"I was really excited but very scared as well, I don't think I stopped worrying until I was holding them in my arms.
"They are seven years old now and my daughter is 11, and I have been given the all clear. And I am doing this walk for them, and I want to show that there is life after cancer.
"It was the best feeling, they are my little miracles, I was blessed with them."
Nicki will be one of 15,000 walkers taking to London's moonlit streets on Saturday (May 16) and along with a friend hopes to raise 200. You can sponsor her by visiting https://www.bmycharity.com/V2/nickihull.
