Schools across Crawley are looking for a total of 12 governors, with some of the posts laying vacant for more than a year.

The appointment of a new governor for Maidenbower Junior School was approved on March 6 but a second post at the school has not been filled since January 2013.

The appointment of Stacey Westbrook for a four-year term was approved during a meeting of the East Crawley County Local Committee.

The meeting also saw the re-appointment of Kevin Pask for a four-year term at Milton Mount Primary School, in Pound Hill.

Posts remain vacant at Maidenbower Infants, Maidenbower Juniors, two at Pound Hill Infants, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, in Langley Green, Gossops Green Primary, two at Ifield Community College, St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary, Waterfield Primary and two at Seymour Primary.

The post at Our Lady Queen of Heaven has been vacant since October 2012.

Anyone interested in becoming a school governor should visit West Sussex County Council’s website – www.westsussex.gov.uk – for further information.

No formal qualifications are required, just an interest in and a commitment to the education of children.
