Mum-of-two is on a roll with new disco business

A mum-of-two is swapping bibs for blades as she rolls into the business of roller discos at Bewbush Centre.

Amanda Hunt, 36, from Three Bridges, took over the Friday night disco a month ago after 12 years out of work and is delighted to be combining her passions for skating and music.

She gave up work in 2000 to become a full-time mother to her daughters,Sophie, 12, and Lucy, eight.

She said: “I’ve been skating all my life, I always went to roller discos in the 1980s and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do so as soon as the chance came I thought ‘I can’t let this one slip’.”

The keen skater has been surprised by the lack of awareness of the fun and healthy activity.

She said: “Some people seem to have forgotten that the disco is there but I am working hard to get the word out. It’s a really good work out, especially for the legs and bums.”

The activity is most popular for children’s parties.

Amanda added: “Most children that come are between five and 13 but one lady in her 60s comes sometimes and a granddad who must have been in his 60s came with his granddaughter too.

“My sister’s two-year-old daughter got her skates on last week as well.”

The roller disco is open for two sessions on Fridays from 5pm to 6pm and then from 6pm to 7.15pm. For more details find Bewbush Centre Roller Disco on Facebook.
