New kits aim to deter thieves

DNA kits will be given to residents to make their valuables more easily identifiable if stolen. The Selecta DNA kits are available from Crawley Police Station and follow a spate of burglaries targeting Asian gold.

The system uses a forensic code to mark the property and visible stickers to deter potential thieves. The household and the items are registered on a database so it can be returned if recovered. CI Justina Beeken said: “I am convinced that by using these kits we will make Crawley a more hostile environment for thieves.”
