Crawley’s next neighbourhood will be called Forge Wood.

The name was announced at a meeting of the East Crawley County Local Committee last night (Thursday December 5).

The decision was chosen by the developers of what had been known as the North East Sector and agreed by Crawley Borough councillors.

Cllr Richard Burrett (Con, Pound Hill North) said: “The council felt Forge Wood was most appropriate. It has historic meaning to Crawley.”

He added one of the reasons the name Tinsley Green had not been chosen was because of the possible confusion which could be caused due to the clash of names with Tinsley Lane, in Three Bridges.

Construction on Forge Wood is likely to begin in 2014.

What do you think of the choice of name? Do you approve of Forge Wood or would you have chosen something else?
