Crawley’s newest neighbourhood forum is meeting tomorrow (Thursday March 6) to select its committee members.

The West Green Community Forum has grown from one man, Dennis Williams, to a group of 18 people since autumn last year.

Topics being discussed on Thursday include health provision, a wild flower planting project for the First Wold War anniversary and electing committee members.

Mr Williams said: “One of the issues we are looking at is the lack of a doctors’ surgery and what we are doing to get some kind of health provision back. The amount of building that is being proposed to be erected in West Green, but you have got to have the amenities to go with it.”

People are invited to the meeting at Crawley Baptist Church, Crabtree Road at 6.30pm.

All the neighbourhoods apart from Furnace Green, Tilgate and Maidenbower have a resident-led group, which works with the police and councils to make a difference in their area. Maidenbower has an active online community on Facebook.

Mr Williams urged people to take part. He said: “First of all when you have a forum, people get together and talk and get the community to interact. Any issues that come about that need to be solved - it’s easier to act as a committee rather than on your own.”

Crawley Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement Nigel Boxall added: “Each of Crawley’s 13 neighbourhoods has a unique character and different features, but it is the people who live there who truly make these places what they are.

“This is why the council works with local communities to keep them engaged and involved in the future of their neighbourhoods. The forums provide excellent opportunities for residents to get their views heard and for ideas for improvements to be put into action.”
