The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will not be investigating an accident on the M23 which followed a police pursuit.
On Sunday (February 9), a man from Crawley Down was in collision with a car after running on to the motorway.
He was air-lifted to the Royal London Free Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Before the accident, a car in which the man had been travelling was being pursued by police in East Grinstead.
He and another man fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle.
The accident on the M23 was referred to the IPCC as standard procedure due to the earlier police involvement.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The IPCC have decided to pass the case back to Sussex Police to continue with investigation locally.”
