The Friends of Goffs Park are preparing for a party to remember as they celebrate the 60th anniversary of the park’s completion.

With the help of a £2,296 Awards for All Lottery grant, a Jubilee Day and community picnic has been organised for Sunday (June 8).

While celebrating the past, the Friends hope to attract new blood to join their team.

Organiser Janet Roskilly said: “We need to look to the future and we need to recruit some new young members of the community, particularly people with young families or people who are regular dog walkers because they use the park and understand it.”

The celebrations on Sunday will be held on the top lawn and bottom lawn in front of Goffs Park House from 12.30pm until 5pm.

Among the entertainment will be singer Brenda Michael, who was a familiar face on the bandstand in the 1960s. There will be music from The Coasters, a group set up by OUtreach 3 Way, in Ifield.

For youngsters there will be Punch & Judy, the Peter Piper Puppets, juggling workshops, a smoothie bike and the Do Stuff Bus.

The Slinfold Concert Band will play music from the past 60 years while musicians and dancers from Thomas Bennett Academy will show off the skills of the younger generation.

Janet added: “This is really about renewal. A lot has been achieved and the parks are one of the glories of Crawley.”
