Phone signal lost due to vandalism

Hundreds of Gossops Green residents lost the use of their phone and internet because of vandalism to underground cables in the area.

Loss of service was reported on Thursday (October 18) and some customers were still without their phone lines on Monday (October 22).

A BT spokesman said that at least 400 people within the area had been affected and added: “Vandals have attacked our network in that area and cut some underground cables on the 18th which has caused a loss of service for some people.

“New cables were put in over the weekend and some customers’ service has started to be restored. We will continue to work until service is restored to all customers, but we believe that may take us another couple of days [from Monday October 22].

“We have reported this incident to the police and would ask anyone with information to contact the police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”

A spokesman for supplier TalkTalk predicted that service would be restored yesterday (Tuesday October 23).
