Police appeal after cars crash to avoid tree in road

Police are appealing for witnesses after two cars collided as they tried to avoid a tree in the road.

A Crawley woman, driving a blue Volkswagen Golf, and a man from Dorking, driving a blue Saab 93, collided on the A24 at Warnham on Christmas Eve, police revealed today (Monday January 20).

A tree had been cut down and was lying in the northbound carriageway when the drivers tried to avoid it at about 6.30am.

The 34-year-old woman suffered an injured knee and whiplash and the man,58, had cuts and whiplash. His 47-year-old female passenger had a fractured breastbone.

PC Ben Henwood said: “I need to speak to anyone who saw the tree in the road before the collision or saw the cars crash but who has not yet come forward.

“I also need to find out who cut the tree down. If you know who was responsible or when it happened, please contact me.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting Operation Budapest or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
