Police appeal after man seen waving axe in Crawley

Witnesses are being sought for anyone who saw a man driving dangerously and waving an axe on Saturday (September 29) in The Boulevard, Crawley.

Police arrived in the area around 10.20am on Saturday following calls to the emergency services.

It is believed that the man, who was driving a yellow van, shouted to a man he knew walking in the street as he drove past.

He then stopped the van and got out holding an axe and threatened the man.

He then got back into the van and drove off, mounting the kerb in the process.

Police are investigating the incident and are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “We believe the man and victim are known to each other and this was not a random incident.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a yellow van driving in the road in a dangerous manner.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 0591 of 29/9 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
