Police chopper helps locate two missing people in Crawley
The Sussex Police helicopter helped local officers search for two vulnerable missing people in Crawley on Monday (August 23).
At 7.25pm a 61-year old man was reported missing from his home address in Pound Hill.
The helicopter assisted in that search but the man was found by local officers in a street in Crawley at about 1.15am on Tuesday August 24.
He was arrested for being drunk and incapable, but currently remains in police custody awaiting a full medical assessment under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.
At about 8.45pm a 19-year old woman patient was reported to have walked out of Langley Green Hospital and officers were searching the area.
The helicopter crew spotted her on a nearby railway bridge just before 9pm and directed officers to the scene.
She was unharmed and was led to safety, and was later transferred for hospital and social services assessment under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.
A Sussex Police spokesman said; "These are just two examples of the way our helicopter can help officers on the ground by searching some large areas quickly, and in one case it was also successful in making sure a vulnerable young woman was brought to safety."
