A 18-year-old man was arrested for possession of a loaded air weapon near St Wilfrid’s School last night (Wednesday October 9).
Police cordoned off part of Old Horsham Road, Southgate, and searched the area after a woman reported seeing three teenagers with a firearm outside the school at 6pm.
A BB gun was located at a house in Old Horsham Road and a man was arrested shortly afterwards.
Suzanne Hutchins, a resident of High Oaks, said a police helicopter was seen circling the area and residents were not allowed to enter or leave the estate.
She said: “There was a helicopter circling around Goffs Park from about 6.30pm until just gone 7pm.
“It was all cordoned off between St Wilfrid’s School and Rose Walk.
“They blocked the road off so any one coming in either had to go in the pub or go back. My neighbour said she was stuck in the pub until it re-opened.”
The road and school re-opened at 7pm. No one was hurt.
The man has been questioned and released on bail until November 7.
