Primary school expansion takes a step forward
Plans to expand a primary school, which was helped by the Observer after building works ground to a halt, have taken another step forward.
Pupils at Langley Green Primary School were left with a building site for a playground in 2009 when work stalled after West Sussex County Counil ran out of funds.
The Observer and Cllr Brenda Smith (Lab, Langley Green), launched a petition to get work re-started accumulating 200 signatures. The funding crisis was resolved by the county council and a public consultation into the third and final phase of the work which could see the school increase in size from 45 pupils per year group to 60 was launched.
Now Cllr Peter Griffiths, county council Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, has approved the publication of notices to expand the school, and if no responses are received the proposal will proceed.
The council has to issue notices to the Press as part of the second phase of the consultation. At the end of the first phase of the consultation, the council received 12 written responses, 10 approved the works and two neither agreed or disagreed.
