An application is due to go before Crawley Borough Council in the summer which, if approved, would change the look of the town centre.

Stanhope, the developer carrying out phase two of the Town Centre North development, hopes to spend £200million on pedestrianising The Boulevard to attract more shoppers and evening entertainment.

The proposed development, which would start in 2015 and be completed by 2017, would involve demolishing Poundland to create a direct route for shoppers from County Mall, through Queens Square, to The Boulevard.

It is hoped the newly pedestrianised area would include many big-name retail stores such as John Lewis, Zara, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch and Cath Kidston.

Stanhope hopes to provide an environment for evening activities to bring the area alive with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and a cinema.
