Pub's toilets win Loo of the Year title

A HORLEY pub has been awarded for the quality and standards of its toilets after achieving the highest rating in this year's Loo of the Year Awards.

The Jack Fairman pub, Victoria Road, was awarded a five star rating by inspectors after they made an unannounced visit.

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving the standards of 'away from home' toilet provision across the UK.

Manager of the Wetherspoons pub, Stephen Lea, said: "I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

Inspectors made unannounced visits to more than 1,500 toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.

All of the toilets were graded from one star to the maximum five star rating, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including decor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

Mike Bone, director of the 2009 Loo of the Year Awards said: "The toilets at The Jack Fairman are superb and the pub richly deserves its five star rating."
