Recycling and rubbish collections should be back on track next week
Crawley Borough Council spread 60 tonnes of salt on roads throughout the town during the recent spell of bad weather.
The amenity services team has reported that the salting had a positive impact on refuse and recycling collections with today’s collections in Southgate, Tilgate, Furnace Green and the town centre mostly going ahead as normal.
But the ongoing icy conditions mean that there may be some problems accessing parts of Southgate West and the hillier areas of Tilgate and Furnace Green.
A spokesman said: “The collection crews will attempt to service these areas, and collect if safe to do so.”
Staff are in the process of spreading salt in some of the problematic areas of tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) collection rounds where there have been access/ice issues in the past.
Amenity services staff, plus two vehicles fitted with salt spreading equipment, are responding to requests for salt to be spread on slippery pavements when contacted on 0800 5875 888. This is done on a priority basis.
With temperatures forecast to rise at the weekend, the council predicted that collections should be back on track next week.
