Robbery victim screamed for help
A woman was left screaming and shouting on the floor after a thief yanked a handbag from under her arm.
Joanne Lunn, 58, was near her home in Winterfold, Tilgate, when the incident happened. As she walked home from work at the bakery on Tilgate Parade she noticed someone following her.
Ms Lunn, 58, said: “I felt him try and grab my bag and as I spun round it made me fall over and I lost my grip of the bag.
“There was no one in the close and I was screaming and shouting for help. I was on my knees and I couldn’t get up no matter what I did. Luckily people heard me and came out and helped me.”
The thief made off with her handbag which contained a picture of her late father but no valuables.
Her neighbours called the police and soothed her nerves with cups of tea. She suffered grazing and was extremely shaken.
The attack happened between 5pm-5.20pm on Thursday (February 21). The suspect was described as white, aged about 17, skinny and about 5ft 5in tall.
Ms Lunn has been comforted by her daughter and granddaughter, who live in Maidenbower. She added: “You just never think it’s going to happen to you. I’ve got to go out tomorrow and walk up that road. Just thinking about it is bit scary.”
