Runners from Crawley will be pulling on their jogging shoes and pounding the streets for 26.2 miles when they take part in this year’s Brighton Marathon.

More than 20,000 people will bound through the city on April 14, and Victoria Cox, who works for charity Vision Aid Overseas,in Manor Royal, and our very own Crawley Town FC reporter Allan Norbury will be joining in the fun.

Victoria, 25, is running her first marathon for Vision Aid Overseas which helps to provide eye care to thousands of people across seven countries in Africa. Victoria said: “I really wanted a challenge, I wouldn’t say I love running, and I really needed a goal to work towards. I feel very passionate about Vision Aid and it is something I really believe in. My colleagues have been very supportive, I go running during my lunch breaks around Manor Royal!

“I am excited. I went along to it last year as my Dad ran in the marathon and it felt like an amazing atmosphere.”

Victoria is hoping to raise £500 for Vision Aid. You can sponsor her by visiting www.justgiving.com/ToriCox87

Allan, 33, from Tilgate, is running for Lingfield based charity Young Epilepsy which helps children and young people aged 25 and under. Allan who is the Crawley Town Football Club sports reporter is no stranger to running marathons, having competed for the first time last year. He said Young Epilepsy was close to his heart because his mum Annette, works at the charity.

He said: “Although I do not have first hand experience of the work carried out by Young Epilepsy, I do hear both heart-warming and heart-rending stories on a regular basis through my mum who works there. Her passion for the charity is clear and is shared by her colleagues, so I was delighted to run on their behalf. It’s my second marathon, having run Brighton in 2012, training has been nowhere as good as 12 months ago yet, but I’m chipping away at it and anything around four hours would be excellent.”
