Singing grandad hopes to be a hit

A grandad who has a passion for singing and songwriting is trying to make a success of his music.

Trevor Gear, 62, of Commonwealth Drive, Three Bridges, said his music was influenced by the Beatles having been “blown away” by the band in the 60s.

The retired bank manager is now writing and singing his own songs in hope of breaking into the industry.

He said: “I just want to get my music out there. It’s something I have always wanted to do and have always believed in. It’s something I love doing.”

Trevor taught himself to play the piano when he was about four years old and began writing his own songs when he was 10, inspired by a girl at his primary school.

Over the years he has recorded demo’s for record companies but has found it hard to get his break.

He said: “During my time as a bank manager, about 20 years, I sent stuff off and I used to get some nice comments back but I’ve found it really hard to get into.”

Trevor has written songs for his two granddaughters, friends and past relationships.

He added: “My marriage broke up about five years ago after being together for 30 years.

“It spurred me on to carry on making music. I didn’t write songs about it but I’m sure it influenced some of my songs.

“Coming out of a marriage I obviously hadn’t dated for many many years but it was a very inspiring time. I write songs from the heart, I’m quite a romantic.”

He said his songs, which include ‘Sex Appeal’, ‘Sunny Summer Saturday’ and ‘So Hard Loving You’, have a folk country flavour.
