SNOW TRAVEL UPDATE: Gatwick flights delayed

The runway at Gatwick Airport is open but flights are subject to at least one hour delays.

Most departures have been delayed with some delayed up to two-and-half hours.

Arrival flights are also subject to similar delays.

Travellers have been advised to check with ther airline before setting off.

Gatwick also told passengers to allow extra travel time to get to the aiport.

Road traffic on the A23 has slowed due to the snowfall.

Drivers are queuing on the southbound lane between Pease Pottage and Handcross.

Southern Railway is operating an amended timetable with trains not splitting or joining at Haywards Heath or Horsham stations and minor disruptions on the Brighton Mainline.

Metrobus has also announced some bus suspensions.

Route 2 is currently suspended between Thomas Bennett School and K2 Leisure Centre due to slippery conditions in the K2 car park with a normal route being followed elsewhere.

Routes 4 and 5 are currently suspended in the Pound Hill area and running between County Oak and Three Bridges only.

Buses are not serving Peterhouse Parade, Milton Mount, Wakehams Green, Crabbett Park or Worth Parade due to untreated slippery road conditions making the normal route unsafe at present.

Route 10 is currently suspended between Broadfield Statium and Bewbush due to unsafe Roads in the Broadfield area. Normal Route being followed elsewhere.

Route 20 is currently suspended between Broadfield Stadium, Creaseys Drive and Broadfield Barton due to unsafe roads in the Broadfield area. Normal route being followed elsewhere.

Route 526 and 256 is currently unable to serve the Horley Interchange due to slippery conditions on the approach road, although it is still serving stops outside the main station entrance.

In Crawley it is not serving Crossways, Gale Drive or Tinsley Lane due to unpassable roads but a normal route is being followed elsewhere.

Route 82 and 84 are currently suspended in full due to untreated slippery roads in the Lindfield, Ardingly and Turners Hill area.

Route 291 is unable to serve Burleigh Way in Crawley Down due to untreated roads becoming slippery with a normal route being followed elsewhere.

Finally route 526 and 527 are suspended due to unsafe roads at Horley, Tinsley Lane, Gales Drive, Crossways and the Smallfield and Charlwood areas.

A spokesperson for Metrobus said: “It is planned that buses will operate normally where possible today. However, we are reliant on local authorities to keep roads clear and safe, and there is still some uncertainty around the impact of today’s forecasted severe weather. We can not say what level of service will be operating as the snow continues to fall.”
