The opening ceremony of Crawley’s Irish Festival yesterday (August 25) celebrated the achievement of a very special young woman.
Grace Kenny, 21, of Pound Hill, did Crawley proud when she took part in the Rose of Tralee contest earlier this year.
The contest brings young women of Irish descent from around the world to County Kerry in a celebration of Irish culture.
Grace had been named London’s Rose in April and, although she did not win the final, she was greeted with rapturous applause at the festival at the Hawth.
Musician, Paul Stanworth, even wrote a song - Journey Back Home - in her honour and performed it in front of the crowd of hundreds.
