The funny side of science is to be explored as part of Crawley STEMfest.

STEMfest organisers, with the support of the Manor Royal Business Group, is to stage a comedy evening at the yet-to-be-opened Gatwick School, Manor Royal, on Tuesday (June 10) from 5.30pm.

The event will feature the musical comedy stylings of Helen Arney, best known as one third of ‘The Festival of the Spoken Nerd’.

Helen has also appeared on Channel 4, Radio 3 and BBC2, and presents the Discovery Channel’s ‘You have been warned’.

Alongside Helen, Simon Watt, biologist, science writer and TV presenter will explain why he is MC / president for life of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society.

Simon presented the BAFTA award-winning documentary series ‘Inside nature’s giants’.

Crawley STEMfest is organised by STEM Sussex, the STEM outreach department at the University of Brighton, in partnership with Crawley Borough Council and Central Sussex College.

It’s aim is to encourage more children to get involved with science, technology, engineering and maths – STEM.

The headline sponsor is CGG, the world’s leading geophysical company.

Jo McKinney, STEM Sussex Project Manager, said: “We want people from Manor Royal – many of whom are already supporting Crawley STEMfest – to join us in a relaxed and informal setting to find out more about STEM and why we should encourage young people to study in these areas.”
