A CONSTRUCTION student will be competing against some of the best young trainees in the country when he takes part in the finals of SkillBuild.
Having triumphed in the south east regional heat, Central Sussex College student Steve Masters, of Furnace Green, will be in Preston, Lancashire, from Wednesday to Friday (September 12-14) to be tested in a range of skills including bricklaying, joinery, painting and decorating and carpentry.
Run by CITB-ConstructionSkills, SkillBuild is the UK’s largest multi-trade competition and Steve, 21, who works for Homebase, will find out if he has won at a closing dinner reception at Preston Guild Hall on Friday.
Gillian Cain, regional delivery manager for CITB-ConstructionSkills in the south said: “We’re so pleased to be able to bring together and motivate the country’s most promising construction trainees in this nationwide competition.
“SkillBuild encourages excellence, helps to raise standards in training and is an exciting way to showcase the outstanding talent coming into the construction industry.”
