Teenager threatened with knife and phone stolen in Crawley

A 13-year-old boy was grabbed around the throat and threatened with a knife before his mobile phone was stolen in Crawley on Monday (September 10).

The schoolboy was making his way home at about 4pm when he was approached near to the bridge at Ifield Mill Pond.

Police said after he was threatened and grabbed, the robber stole his mobile phone before making off.

The thief was described as white, aged about 17, of average build, between 5’ 6” and 5’ 10” tall, with dark spiky blonde hair and a small beard. He was wearing a blue Adidas jumper described as being ‘raincoat material’ with the hood up, and grey fabric tracksuit bottoms.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “This was a terrifying incident for a young boy who was simply making his way home from school. Fortunately he wasn’t injured but he was obviously very shaken up by the ordeal.

“If anyone has any information about this robbery then we would ask them to call police on 101, quoting serial 1132 of September 10.

“Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
