Ten people have been made redundant from the Crawley branch of Unipart Automotive Ltd after the company was placed into administration.

The company, one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of car parts, workshop consumables and garage equipment, employed 1,813 people nationwide - 1,244 of which have now lost their jobs.

Administrators Mark Orton, Will Wright and Jonny Marston, from KPMG, were able to sell part of the business, with 33 branches and 361 staff being taken on by car parts companies Andrew Page and The Parts Alliance.

But the Crawley branch, in Cobham Way, was one of 151 branches to have closed with immediate effect.
