Thank you from Olympic team

A Bahamas team shirt signed by some of the country’s Olympians was presented to Crawley’s Mayor by the High Commissioner for the Bahamas as a thank you for its stay during the games.

The Mayor of Crawley, Cllr Keith Blake, was delighted with the gift given to him by High Commissioner Eldred E Bethel, who came to have lunch to thank the Mayor for Crawley’s support during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Cllr Blake said: “It’s a fantastic gift and we really appreciate it.

“A lot of people worked extremely hard to make sure Crawley was a good base for athletes before they made their way to the Olympic Village.

“It seems that work definitely paid off as all the countries we hosted have done nothing but praise us, which has been great to hear.”

High Commissioner Bethel said: “I wasn’t going to bring it in person at first but when the Mayor invited us for lunch I thought it would be a great opportunity to really show our gratitude for the hospitality our athletes received when they stayed and trained here. They all speak very highly of it.”

The High Commissioner came from his London office, where he has been posted for more than a month, to have lunch at the Arora Hotel with the Mayor and his wife, Mayoress Cllr Sally Blake.

The Bahamas team trained at K2 during the Olympic games.

The team won gold at the games for athletics.

Chris Brown, Michael Mathieu, Ramon Miller, and Demetrius Pinder won the men’s 4 x 400 metre relay.
