The fire which broke out in a house in Tilgate yesterday afternoon (Tuesday February 5) destroyed the first-floor of the building and badly damaged the roof.
Crews from Crawley, Horley, Horsham, East Grinstead, Turner Hill, Haywards Heath and Shoreham attended the blaze in Ashdown Drive for more than two-and-a-half hours.
Emergency services were called at 3.55pm and firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to extinguish the flames.
A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that the Hazardous Area Response Team was called as a precaution and was at the scene for 90 minutes.
Madeleine Brehme, who took this picture, said: “The first thought was if someone was in there they would not have stood a chance - luckily there was nobody home.”
