Town hall grants advice for community groups

VOLUNTARY and community group organisers are being invited to visit the town hall next week to get information on how to apply for grants.

On Wednesday (September 19), council officers will be on hand to answer questions about Crawley Borough Council’s community grants for 2013/14. Ask for Craig Downs at reception from noon-2pm.

Funding is usually awarded to not-for-profit voluntary and community organisations to assist with the costs involved in new or existing activities, eg setting up and running projects, services and events that are of benefit to Crawley residents and visitors.

In 2012/13 the council awarded grant funding to more than 20 groups. For future funding awards the council will consider supporting activities with clear links to local priorities.

Cllr Nigel Boxall (Con, Tilgate), Cabinet member for community engagement, said: “Council grants help organisations offer better services, often to the most vulnerable members of society. I’d urge any charity or voluntary group to apply to the council for a grant because we may be able to help you enhance the work that you do for the residents of Crawley.”

Organisations applying for more than £1,000 should submit an EoI form by September 21. This is available at www.crawley.gov.uk/grants
