'UFO' spotted

A MYSTERIOUS object was spotted in the skies over Rusper on Friday October 5.

Minutes after seeing what appeared to be a meteorite, a group of ten to 13-year-olds say they saw a strange fast moving object with flashing lights.

"About three minutes after we saw the meteorite, we saw the UFO or whatever it was," said Abigail Russell, 13.

"It definitely wasn't a plane that we saw because the lights were different, and were flashing differently."

Contacting the County Times to report what they had seen, Abigail said she had been outside in Gardeners Green with her sister Elle and their friends David and James Avedissian, Craig Murtagh and Sam Marney around 7.30pm that evening.

"David and Elle pointed to the sky where we saw a strange object hovering just where the meteorite had landed.

"It was moving very fast.

"It looked like an upside-down saucer with flashing lights - purple, orange, and red, blue, green.

"We were convinced it was a UFO.

"Every time it flashed it was nearer."

After the last and brightest flash, they said, it vanished.

Abigail said she was 'in a big panic', and tried to show her dad what she had seen, but it was gone leaving only a white cloudy streak in an otherwise cloudless sky.

"I've spoken to a couple of friends," she said, "but kind of figured no-one would believe us."

At first, Abigail thought the object they had seen previously might have been a comet, but her dad said it must have been a meteorite, or just some space junk.

First they saw a white streak, then what looked like a fireball flying through the air.

It was in view for about a second and a half, then went out of sight behind some trees.
