A school’s infant area will remain closed for days after a water pipe burst and flooded nine of its classrooms.
More than 40 staff at Hilltop Primary School, Southgate, and firefighters cleared the classrooms and corridors which were flooded with two inches of water from around 7.30am today (Thursday September 4).
The junior school in the same building was not affected and will open tomorrow.
Headteacher Kristina Hollingdale said: “They all mucked in, they put their wellies on, rolled their trousers up and cleared the area very quickly.
“We are really disappointed that we cannot open, the school was looking lovely and ready.
“We are doing all we can to get the infant classrooms serviceable again.”
She hoped the infant school would be open next Monday after work was carried out on its flood-damaged floors over the weekend.
