Residents in Langley Green, Crawley, have said the house being searched by anti-terrorism police was once occupied by child killer Roy Whiting.

The house, in Martyrs Avenue has been guarded by police investigating a man suspected of carrying out a suicide bombing in Syria.

One resident, who asked not to be named, described this morning’s events as “very scary” and added: “ The house is the same one the Roy Whiting’s father lived in. So did Whitting when he was in Crawley.”

Whiting was jailed in 2001 for the kidnap and murder of eight-year-old Sarah Payne.
