UPDATE: Man dies after crash in Crawley

A local man has died after a crash involving a car in Crawley this afternoon (Friday April 29).

Sussex Police said the victim, a pedestrian, is a 30-year-old local man.

The crash happened at about 3.10pm on the A23 Pease Pottage Hill, at the junction of Tilgate Drive, near the K2 Leisure Centre.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “An air ambulance attended, but the man was sadly declared dead at the scene.

“The victim is a 30-year-old local man who was struck by a dark coloured hatchback. The driver of the car involved was taken to the East Surrey Hospital suffering from minor injuries and shock.

“There has been significant disruption to traffic in the area and the road remained closed at 5.30pm as the incident continued to be dealt with.

“A short section of the road was reopened to allow workers from an adjacent office block to leave, but it is anticipated that it will remain closed well into the evening.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Raglan.”

The road was closed between the Checkatrade.com Stadium and Pease Pottage to allow the air ambulance to land on the A23.

Several police cars and South East Coast Ambulance Service vehicles were called to the scene, as well as the helicopter.
