A man has been found not guilty of causing death by careless driving.
Barry Edwards, of Worcester Road, Tilgate, appeared at Hove Crown Court on Thursday (September 12) charged with causing the death of Colin Booth.
Mr Booth, 57, from St Anne’s Road, Eastbourne, died following an accident on the A23 in October 2011.
During his eight-day trial, the court heard that Mr Edwards, 58, had been travelling southbound on the A23 at Pyecombe just before 6am on October 4 2011 when he lost control of his Renault van.
He collided with street lighting which then fell across the northbound lane.
The lighting struck Mr Booth’s van and he died at the scene from his injuries.
In a statement released by Sussex Police, Mr Booth’s family said: “Colin was a devoted husband, a loving father and his whole family misses him dearly.
“The condolence messages from his friends and work colleagues has been overwhelming and we’d like to thank them all for that.
“It has shown how many lives he touched with his great sense of humour and larger then life personality.”
