VIDEO: Bad weather fails to deter ‘bedroom tax’ protestors

Waiting for Video...

Members of the Crawley Independent Tenants Association braved the miserable weather on Saturday (March 16) to protest changes to the housing benefit rules which have been dubbed ‘the bedroom tax’.

The changes, which will come into effect in April, will mean that those deemed to have too much living space - such as spare bedrooms - will see a reduction in the amount of benefit they receive.

Iain Dickson and other members of the CITA were in Queens Square asking people to put their names to a petition calling on Crawley Borough Council “not to evict people because of the bedroom tax”.

Mr Dickson said: “We’re part of many other campaigning groups across the country who are opposed to the bedroom tax, which we feel is an absurd tax which has not been thought through well and could find people having massive reductions in their income through housing benefit or even facing eviction.”
