More than 400 teachers, parents and children attended a Catholic school celebration.

The Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, Kieran Conry, led Our Lady Queen of Heaven’s May Procession 2014, at the school in Hare Lane, Langley Green, today (Friday June 6).

Headteacher Tobias Melial said: “It’s safe to say it was the biggest and best crowning of Our Lady we’ve had.

“We’ve been really lucky with the weather and it was great we could have Bishop Kieran Conry here.”

The event saw the crowning of a statue of the Virgin Mary, from which the primary school takes its name.

Pupils who had recently taken their first communion were dressed in white robes and sat at the front.

Speaking of the group, Bishop Conry said: “The parents feel very proud of what their children are doing and the children themselves are thrilled.”

Some 300 schoolchildren enjoyed a magic show after the crowning.
