Children at the Springfit Gymnastics and Trampolining Club in Crawley are celebrating after sweeping the board in a regional conpetition.

The club at Oriel High School in Maidenbower hosted the contest when their gymnasts along with others from different clubs from around the region were able to show off their skills in both the floor and vault disciplines.

Springfit has clubs in Crawley, Horley and Redhill areas and their gymnasts had an extremely successful first half of the competition taking a clean sweep of all the medals over the two age groups in Grade 1.

They also performed extremely well in Grade 2 claiming five medals out of the 12 on offer.

Six of medal winners all train in the same Maidenbower class with Georgie Donovan, one of Springfit’s Head Gymnastics Coaches and senior coach Katie Pidgeon.

Georgie said: “To have so many gymnasts in one class to all win medals is amazing especially seeing that they are so young and for most of them, it was their first Competition. I’m so proud of them all. It is not only credit to the hard work in class by the gymnasts but also to the coaches for nurturing the talents of these and all their gymnasts in a caring and supportive manner.”

Keira Bruce, aged seven, and six year old Callie Goodbourne took gold medals. Silver medal winners were seven-year-olds Madison David and Chloe Forward and six-year-old Jasmin Byrne. Meanwhile Niamh Lesova, seven, won bronze.

Another early Christmas present for the club’s young trampolinists was the six monthly Gold Medal presentation.

During the week when the medals are awarded, Springfit run special sessions giving parents and friends opportunity to watch the class.

The students demonstrate their latest acquired skills and moves and it is so great to see the improvements in basic balance and coordination as well as the more subtle aspects such as increased spatial awareness and confidence.

Charlie Foster, Scarlett Bowden, Harry Rest, Esther Sturch, Ciara Fitzsimons and Christian Edwards achieved the accolade this time.

Springfit’s Maidenbower has several sessions on Fridays and Saturdays. For more information go to www.springfit.org/classes
